Atsuko Tanaka, Mayumi Tanaka Act in Dokidoki! Precure

Voices of Ghost in the Shell's Kusanagi, One Piece's Luffy join magical girl anime

Atsuko Tanaka revealed on her blog on Sunday that she will voice a year-long regular role in the Dokidoki! Precure magical girl anime series with another seasoned voice actress, Mayumi Tanaka. She did not reveal their roles.

Atsuko Tanaka is best known for her portrayal of Major Motoko Kusanagi from the Ghost in the Shell films and television series. She has also appeared more recently in Kokoro Connect as Reika Nagase, and in the Queen's Blade series as Claudette.

Mayumi Tanaka has starred as numerous characters in her long-running career, including Krillin in Dragon Ball Z, Monkey D. Luffy in One Piece, Ryuunosuke Fujinami in Urusei Yatsura, and Pazu in Laputa - Castle in the Sky. She has also performed musical numbers for Sakura Wars and character songs for Dragon Ball Z.

The series' main cast was announced on Monday.

The story is as follows:

Just when Mana Aida, second-year student at Ōkai 1st Middle School, was about to reach the observatory at the top of the Clover Tower in her town, a monster appears. Mana, who jumps into action without thinking, is met by Charles, a fairy from the Trump Kingdom. With her help, she transforms into Cure Heart! Together with her childhood friends Rikka and Arisu (along with the mysterious Cure Sword from the Trump Kingdom), Mana protects Earth from the invading Jikochū monsters.

The anime will begin airing in Japan on February 3.
