Elfen Lied author's story of magic-using girl who looks like protagonist's deceased childhood friend

The official website for the anime of Lynn Okamoto's Gokukoku no Brynhildr (Brynhildr in the Darkness) science-fiction manga began streaming the first promotional video on Friday.

The video outlines the premise: High school boy Ryōta Murakami cannot forget his female childhood friend, whom he let die in an accident. Feeling that he must fulfill their promise of proving the existence of aliens, he has gazed at the night skies by himself constantly since that day. One day, a girl named Neko Kuroha who looks exactly like his childhood friend appears as a transfer student. It turns out that she is a magic-user who has run away from a research lab.

Studio ARMS (MAOYU, Queen's Blade) will animate this story by the creator of Elfen Lied and Nononono. Kenichi Imaizumi (Katekyo Hitman Reborn!, Student Council's Discretion Level 2) is directing the anime off scripts by Yukinori Kitajima (428 ~Fūsa Sareta Shibuya de~, Senran Kagura, Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, Hamatora). Hiroaki Karasu (episode animation director on Gatchaman Crowds, Kimikiss pure rouge) is serving as character designer and chief animation director.

The anime will premiere in April. Okamoto began the manga in Young Jump in 2011, and Shueisha published the sixth compiled volume of the manga on September 19.
