Anime Expo to Host World Premiere of Kengan Ashura Anime

posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins
Director Seiji Kishi as well as anime's story editor, composer, producer to attend event

Anime Expo revealed on Saturday that it will host the world premiere of the anime adaptation of Yabako Sandrovich's Kengan Ashura manga on July 7. The event will also host director Seiji Kishi, producer Yūji Higa, story editor Makoto Uezu, and composer Yasuharu Takanashi. The creators will also host autograph sessions. The staff's appearance is in collaboration with Pony Canyon.

Anime Expo is also streaming a video for the anime, which is an English-subtitled version of the same video the staff streamed in March.

The anime is slated to air on television in 2019, although the staff haven't yet revealed the format of the anime.

Seiji Kishi (Danganronpa The Animation, Yuki Yuna Is a Hero) is directing the anime at Larx Entertainment. Makoto Uezu (Akame ga KILL!, The Heroic Legend of Arslan) is in charge of series composition, and Kazuaki Morita (Tsuki ga Kirei, Assassination Classroom) is designing the characters. Team-MAX's Yasuharu Takanashi (Fairy Tail, Naruto Shippūden) is composing the music.

In the manga's story, businesses and merchants wager large sums of money to hire combatants for unarmed hand-to-hand fighting matches. The winner takes all in these Kengan competitions that originated during the Edo period. Merchants use the fights as a means to resolve disputes with each other.

The strong and mysterious Ōma Tokita, whose nickname is Ashura, enters these matches. Nogi Group president Hideki Nogi keeps his ambitions to himself when he meets Ashura. Events begin to swirl around the Kengan fights as Ashura enters the fray.

Sandrovich launched Kengan Ashura with Daromeon's illustrations in the Manga ONE app in 2012. Shogakukan released the 24th volume on April 12. The series' compiled volumes have a total of more than 1.5 million copies in print. The manga won a fan voting contest in 2015 to receive the adaptation.

Animation Studio Trigger also announced on Saturday that it will reveal more details about the recently revealed Kill la Kill game at Anime Expo, and the anime's character designer Sushio and creative officer Hiromi Wakabayashi will attend the event.

This year's Anime Expo will take place at the Los Angeles Convention Center from July 5 to July 8, with a pre-show event on July 4.
