Korea Content Agency Accelerates Global Webtoon Expansion with New IP Support Project

The Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA) — under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism — announced on September 2 that it will push forward with the “2025 Global Webtoon IP Production Support Project,” aiming to accelerate the overseas expansion of K-webtoons.
The initiative is already showing results. Maron Marquis, one of the first titles supported through the program, debuted on Kakao Page on August 14, and quickly topped the platform's overall webtoon rankings for three consecutive days.
A total of 12 Korean studios — including Daon Creative, The Green Entertainment, and Redice Studio — are participating in the program to produce a diverse slate of new works. KOCCA plans to release around 20 supported titles this year and a total of 40 by the first half of 2026 across both domestic and global platforms.
The agency is also backing high-profile adaptation projects, such as the upcoming webtoon version of French author Bernard Werber's bestselling novel Empire of the Ants. In addition, KOCCA will promote supported titles at the upcoming 2025 World Webtoon Festival this October, boosting visibility among international audiences and industry partners.
By directly supporting production, KOCCA aims to strengthen the competitiveness of Korean creators while securing a broader foothold for webtoons in the global content market.
Based on the web novel of the same name, Maron Marquis is created by Hound, Zaya, and Milky Way. Currently an English version is not available.
