Naver Webtoon Launches US$70,000 Monthly Reward Program for Short-Form Video Feature 'Cuts'
posted on by Wonhee Cho

Naver WEBTOON announced on October 2 that it will offer creators a total of approximately US$70,000 (100 million won) in monthly rewards to boost its new short-form animation service, Cuts. The initiative was unveiled at the “Cuts Creators Day” event held at Naver's Green Factory headquarters in Seongnam on October 1. Around 100 participants from the first batch of Cuts Creators attended the event.
Starting in November, the company will roll out the “Cuts Fund Share” program, rewarding creators based on view counts. The program will run as a three-month pilot through January.
In addition, Naver WEBTOON will host bi-monthly challenges by releasing specific keywords; 300 selected creators will receive approximately US$20.
Naver launched Cuts on September 1 and has been actively recruiting and supporting creators to expand the ecosystem.
Cuts offers a new way to experience stories by transforming WEBTOON content into short, animated clips. In addition to highlight-style summaries of existing webtoons, Cuts also introduces original content exclusive to the feature.
Inspired by the success of YouTube Shorts and TikTok, Naver WEBTOON's strategy aims to lower the barrier to entry and crowdsource a broad variety of content, from studio-produced shorts to experimental animations by amateurs. The company is also exploring the integration of generative AI tools to assist creators in producing animation content.
