Live-Action The Disastrous Life of Saiki K. Film Premieres on October 21 (Updated)

posted on by Karen Ressler

This year's 14th issue of Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine announced on Monday that the live-action film based on Shūichi Asō's Saiki Kusuo no Psi Nan (The Disastrous Life of Saiki K.) manga will premiere in Japan on October 21.

Asō posted an image on Twitter on Monday to commemorate the announcement, with an image that looks similar to the main poster for the live-action JoJo's Bizarre Adventure film.

The film will star Kento Yamazaki (live-action Orange, Your Lie in April, One Week Friends films, live-action Death Note television series) as the titular character Kusuo Saiki, and Yūichi Fukuda (live-action HK/Hentai Kamen, Mr. Nietzsche in the Convenience Store, Gintama) is directing the film.

The manga inspired an anime series that aired within the Oha-Suta ("Good Morning Star") program beginning in July. The anime aired five episodes each week inside that program, and then a light-night broadcast collected those five episodes and aired them together. An anime sequel has been green-lit.

Funimation streamed the series with English subtitles as it aired in Japan, and also streamed an English broadcast dub for the series.

Asō launched the manga series in Weekly Shonen Jump in 2012 after drawing one-shot versions of the story in Weekly Shonen Jump and Jump Next! magazines in 2011. Shueisha published the 20th compiled volume of the manga in Japan on December 31. The 21st volume will ship on April 4.
