'Secret of Mana,' 'Final Fantasy Adventure' Trademarked in the U.S.

posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda

The United States Patent and Trademark Office is listing trademarks for "Secret of Mana" and "Final Fantasy Adventure" in the United States, with listed filing dates of February 5. The listings list Square Enix as the applicant.

The original Seiken Densetsu -Final Fantasy Gaiden- (Final Fantasy Adventure) game debuted for Game Boy in 1991. Square Enix released a remake of the original game for PlayStation Vita as well as iOS and Android devices in Japan in 2016. The English version of the game simultaneously launched for iOS and Android devices under the title Adventures of Mana.

Square released the Seiken Densetsu 2 (Secret of Mana) game for Super Famicom (SNES) in Japan and North America in 1993. A remake launched for PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, and PC in Japan, North America, and Europe in February 2018.

Square Enix also recently released the original Secret of Mana (Seiken Densetsu 2) game, along with the first and third Seiken Densetsu games, for Switch as part of its Seiken Densetsu Collection in Japan in June 2017. Masaru Oyamada, the producer of the Secret of Mana remake, previously stated in January 2018 that Square Enix is considering releasing the Secret of Mana remake on Switch, and also stated that the company has received a lot of requests to release the Seiken Densetsu Collection in the West.

Square released Seiken Densetsu 3 for Super Famicom in 1995, and the game has never shipped in the West.
