In ep 13 at 5:13 there is a package labeled green juice. This is a reference to ao jiru, a health drink aimed at the elderly.

In episode 1, the background character at 18:02 is likely to be Chiri Kitsu from Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei judging from her hair style and the hoe.

In episode 1, from 21:49 to 22:10, the characters' yell towards the sea in different directions refer to issues between Japan and its neighboring countries; (i) "return our land" towards the North refers to Northern Territories Dispute between Japan and Russia; (ii) "return our people" towards the Northwest refers to abductions of Japanese people by the North Korean government in late 1970s; (iii) "return our technology" towards the West refers to the emergence of South Korea as Japanese major rival in the manufacturing sector (hence the perceived loss of technology); (iv) "return our submarine resources" towards the Southwest refers to Japan-China offshore gas field dispute; and finally (v) "return our money" is directed obviously towards the Japanese government represented by the National Diet Building symbol.

In episode 2, two of the uniforms hung up at 14:15 are from two different Dengeki Bunko based anime. The red one on the left is from Toradora, while the one with the olive green collar and yellow ribbon 2 over to the right is from Shakugan no Shana.

In episode 2, when the girls are talking about getting a Mac with a coupon, Ronald McDonald appears with his famous theme jingle.

In episode 8, at 3:53, the five-syllable and two-syllable characters at the background refer to Kohji Kumeta (author of Joshiraku) and Yasu (illustrator of Joshiraku) respectively.

In episode 9, when Kigurumi changes her hairstyle, Marii comments that there was another character that had a similar one, and a silhouette of Nozomi Yumehara/Cure Dream from Yes! Pretty Cure 5 appeared.

In episode 9, when the girls are talking about animals, Kukuru mentions polar bears, and the character who comes up in the background is, of course, Shirokuma from Shirokuma Cafe.
