Garage Kit

Garage kits are highly-detailed model kits produced by fans (often in their garages, hence the name) or other small-scale, low-production-run manufacturing outfits. Because these kits are virtually handcrafted and produced by fans, they are known for their intricate detail and realism. Recently, some model kit companies have started producing "garage" type kits on a larger scale. Anime production studio Gainax got its start making garage kits, as chronicled/parodied in the anime Otaku no Video.
