Upcoming Gintama Episode Features Gender-Swapped Characters

The 275th episode of Gintama features some characters undergoing an interesting change on June 10. The series' main cast is getting gender-swapped.

Protagonist Gintoki Sakata and members of his freelancing Yorozuya group will see major changes in their appearances. Gintoki, for example, has been renamed "Ginko Sakata" while an alternate version of Isao Kondō can be seen through Goriko Kondō.

While not being just a simple redrawing of the characters, some re-versions see drastic changes from their original characters. The alien tomboy Kagura, for instance, becomes the burly and intimidating Kaguraton while the massive inugami Sadaharu becomes a horse known as Seki Tobaharu.

Meanwhile, the Shinsengumi becomes the Mansengumi in this alternate telling. Vice commander Tōshirō Hijikata has been changed into the physically large X-ko Hijikata. The Shinsengumi swordmaster Sōgo Okita has also become Mansengumi's Sōko Okita.

With these new characters even come new voice actors to further transition them into these differing genders.

The TV Tokyo official site was updated to include these and other changes made.

An interesting thing to note is that despite all these changes, the only change made to the formal samurai trainee Shinpachi Shimura is his glasses becoming pink.
