Nintendo Returns to Its Roots By Offering Mario Hanafuda Playing Cards

Nintendo calls back to its humble beginnings as a hanafuda card manufacturer in 1889 by blending their old trade with their classic characters.

The popular gaming company is now producing special Mario-themed hanafuda playing cards. Blending both traditional hanafuda card art and various elements from the Mario franchise, these cards are sure to tickle the fancy of diehard Nintendo fans.

Each card features different characters and aspects of Mario games. Ranging from characters like Yoshi, Princess Peach and Toad to enemies and items like Cheep-Cheeps, Shy Guys and Super Stars, the Mario touch truly graces this classic Japanese game. These cards will be released on November 21 for 2,500 yen (about US$20).

The company previously released Pokémon hanafuda playing cards in 2013. The former Club Nintendo previously released a set of 52-deck suited playing cards back in 2014.
