Nintendo Pokemon Hanafuda Cards Ready for Pre-Order

posted on by Bamboo Dong
More information and new images have been released for the upcoming Pokémon hanafuda deck.

Previously, Nintendo was pretty tight-lipped about its new Pokemon hanafuda cards, but it's finally available for pre-order.

The cards feature Pokémon from the Pokémon Red & Green series, and will also feature Pokémon artwork on the packaging and instruction booklet.

Pre-orders are being accepted now, but the deck itself isn't expected to ship until November 29. The deck sells for 2,500 yen ($25), and contains 49 cards (48 with unique designs, and one white card). An original instruction booklet will also be included for those who don't know the rules of hanafuda.

A framed edition will also be sold, which features the un-cut cards. It is expected to sell for 15,100 yen ($152), with more details to come later this month.

For those who like getting free goodies, early pre-orders at Japanese Pokémon Centers will receive an A2 poster of all the hanafuda cards in color (green version), while pre-orders at Animate will receive a red version of the same poster.

When Nintendo was first founded in 1889, the very first product they manufactured was hanafuda cards. In fact, their extensive experience making hanafuda and eventually other Japanese and Western card games is what led them to enter the toy industry. And of course, the video game industry.

The company still makes a few hanafuda decks today, including their signature Daiyouryou cards, which feature a portrait of Napoleon. Back in 2007, they also released a special Mario-themed deck through their Club Nintendo service.
