Magical Girl Anime Princess Tutu Gets 6-Disc Soundtrack Release

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

Junichi Satō magical girl fantasy series Princess Tutu turned 15 this year with a new orchestral concert to celebrate the series' soundtrack. Fans who couldn't make it out to Mitaka, fear not. One of the most complete versions of the anime's musical score hit store shelves on December 19.

The six-disc collection is titled Princess Tutu Full Music Collection: Volle Musiksammlung and includes a total of 122 tracks from the Ritsuko Okazaki's opening theme "Morning Grace" to compositions by Tchaikovsky and Mendelssohn. The series original score by Kaoru Wada is also included. The CD collection features artwork from Princess Tutu's original character designer and creator Ikuko Ito.

Customers that pre-order the set from certain shops will receive bonus goods, like an A3-size poster and tickets for a Princess Tutu talk event set to take place in Tokyo on February 3. Kaoru Wada, Ikuko Ito, Junichi Satō, and Yasuno Satō will attend the event.

Princess Tutu was re-released in a 15th anniversary commemorative box set in Japan in August 2017. The limited edition release included a bonus CD, a 280-page special booklet discussing the show's creation, and a 32-page booklet introducing the show's characters and music.

The series was released on DVD by AEsir Holdings in 2016. The story follows 13-year-old ballet student Ahiru, a clumsy, good-hearted and sweet girl with a big secret. The mysterious Drosselmayer morphed a young duck into a girl to give her a mission: help a Prince to get the parts of his heart back. With that in mind, she morphs into Princess Tutu, whose magical dances eases pain and purifies bad feelings.
