Sakura Wars V Game to Ship in North America This Fall
posted on by Egan Loo
NIS America, a subsidiary of the game company Nippon Ichi Software, has announced on Thursday that it will release the Sakura Wars: So Long, My Love game on the Sony PlayStation 2 and Nintendo Wii consoles in North America this fall. The strategy role-playing game tells an alternate-history story of all-female mechanized task forces — that also perform musicals to maintain their top secret cover. Even though many anime adaptations of Sega and Red Company's long-running franchise have been released in English, this fall's game will be the first Sakura Wars game officially released in North America. Sakura Wars: So Long, My Love is an adaptation of the Japanese Sakura Taisen V ~Saraba, Itoshiki Hito yo~ game.
The Sakura Taisen Wars franchise began with the hit 1996 Sega game of the same name. Four more games, shelves of platform ports and spinoffs, anime, and a string of live musical shows would follow. However, Sakura Taisen V, which was the last major game for the main storyline, was released back in 2005. The latest anime spinoff, Sakura Taisen: New York NY., ended in 2007. The Osaka and Tokyo shops dedicated to Sakura Taisen had both closed in 2003 and 2008, respectively. After a 12-year run, the last stage musical closed its curtains last August.
