Baka to Test to Shōkanjū, Liar Game's Promos Streamed

Anime of Kenji Inoue's fantasy school novels in January, Liar Game finale in March

The Japanese production company Media Factory has begun streaming a second 97-second promotional video for the anime adaptation of Kenji Inoue's Baka to Test to Shōkanjū (The Idiot, the Tests, and the Summoned Creatures) fantasy romantic comedy light novels on Sunday. The story centers around Akihisa Yoshii, the "baka" of the title. His academy rigidly divides up the student body into classes based on the results of tests. The prodigies are in the A class with reclining seats complete with air conditioning, but Akihisa is in F class, the lowest rung of the school ladder which is furnished only with low, decrepit tables and worn-out straw tatami mats.

A smart girl named Mizuki Himeji had a fever on test day and was pigeonholed into the F class. Besides Mizuki, the F class also has Yūji Sakamoto, the class president who has been Akihisa's partner-in-crime since the freshman year. The school happens to have developed experiments to summon fantasy creatures, and Akihisa decides to rally F class to take on the higher-tiered classes and seize their perks. The F class uses the summoned creatures in an all-out battle for school supremacy.

The television anime will premiere in Japan on January 6. Monthly Shōnen Ace runs the manga adaptation of the novel series, which Enterbrain has been publishing since 2007.

The official website for the theatrical film adaptation of Shinobu Kaitani's Liar Game psychological thriller manga has begun streaming a 95-second full theatrical trailer. (In the linked page, select the red apple, skip the Flash introduction, and select the "Liar Game Movie" button.)

The Liar Game: The Final Stage film is set after the second television season based on the manga. In the story, a woman named Nao Kanzaki (Death Note's Erika Toda) is caught in a dangerous high-stakes competition known as "Liar Game," and a genius con artist named Shinichi Akiyama (Hana Yori Dango's Shota Matsuda) comes to Kanzaki's aid. In the second season and film, Kanzaki teams up with Akiyama and a former rival named Fukunaga for a final round.

The second season premiered in Japan on November 10, and the film will open on March 6, 2010.
