Anchor Bay Films' Redline Release Slated for Fall
posted on by Daryl Bunao
The American video distributor Anchor Bay Films announced on Tuesday that it plans to release the 2009 anime film Redline this fall. Anchor Bay had revealed last July that this film would be among its "upcoming Manga releases" along with First Squad - The Moment Of Truth. Both Anchor Bay Entertainment and the anime distributor Manga Entertainment are currently subsidiaries of Starz Media. The film's home video release has already been scheduled in the United Kingdom and Japan for September 6 and August 10, respectively.
Produced by Madhouse Studios and directed by Takeshi Koike (The Animatrix's "World Record"), Redline is a film about a futuristic death-race held every five years. The retro-chic protagonist JP enters the race after qualifying by popular vote despite the race's treacherous reputation. Leading the cast are SMAP's Takuya Kimura (Howl's Moving Castle, live-action Space Battleship Yamato), Tadanobu Asano (Ichi the Killer, Tokyo Zombie), and Yū Aoi (Honey and Clover, Tekkonkinkreet).
The movie premiered August 2009 at the Locarno International Film Festival in Switzerland. Since then, the film has had multiple international screenings including a simultaneous American and Japanese debut last October.
