Konami's Busou Shinki Action Figures Get TV Anime (Updated)

A TBS Television commercial announced on Friday that a television anime adaptation of Konami's Busou Shinki line of armed female action figures has been green-lit for this fall. The new anime has a different staff from the Busou Shinki: Moon Angel net anime that preceded it last year.

The slice-of-life battle story is set in a future that has neither World War III nor an alien invasion — just an ordinary future set after our current age. In this world, robots are part of everyday life, and they contribute in various aspects of society. "Shinki" are 15-centimeter-tall (about 6-inch-tall) cute partners made to assist humans. Equipped with intelligence and emotions, they devote themselves to serving their "Masters."

These Shinki can even be equipped with weapons and armor to fight each other. Such Shinki are named "Busou Shinki" (literally, "armed divine princesses"). In particular, the Shinki Ann (Arnval), Aines (Altines), and Rane (Altrane) serve a high school freshman named Masato. Things change when a new Shinki, the bellicose Staarf, joins them.

Director: Yasuhito Kikuchi (Infinite Stratos, Macross Frontier)
Series Script Editor: Masahiro Yokotani (Maria Holic; Steins;Gate, K-ON! scripts)
Character Design: Takahiro Kishida (Madoka Magica, Cheburashka Arere?)
Character Design/Chief Animation Director: Ryōma Ebata (Blue Exorcist; Welcome to THE SPACE SHOW's animation director's assistant)
Animation Production: 8-Bit (Infinite Stratos, Aquarion Evol)

The official website features the character designs of Altines, Arnval, Staarf, and Altrane.

The figure line inspired the first Busō Shinki Battle Masters PSP action-adventure game, which shipped in Japan in 2010. The figure line's second video game, Busou Shinki Battle Masters Mk. 2, debuted last year.

Konami has been streaming the first episode of Busou Shinki: Moon Angel, along with the two opening animation sequences and a promotion video:
