The official website for the Saint Young Men (Saint Oniisan) anime film began streaming a full trailer for the movie on Thursday.
The anime film and Hikaru Nakamura's original manga imagine if the Enlightened One Buddha (voiced by actor Gen Hoshino) and the Son of God Jesus (SAKEROCK band leader Mirai Moriyama) shared a low-rent apartment in Tokyo's Tachikawa area. The two holy beings have landed on Earth and now experience the mortal life in Japan. In one of the preview's segments, an old man asks if Buddha and Jesus would like to come in the bath house because it will “revive” them, to which Jesus replies that he already has experience with being revived.
Noriko Takao (episode director on Clannad, K-ON!, Lucky Star) is directing at A-1 Pictures off a screenplay by Rika Nezu (live-action Kimi ni Todoke, live-action Absolute Boyfriend). The film will open in Japan on May 10, 2013. There are also two original anime DVDs that are being bundled with the eighth manga volume (which was shipped in December) and the ninth volume (to be shipped in July). The original manga has sold over 9.5 million copies.
The movie will open in Japanese theaters on May 10.
