Persona 4 Arena Sequel's Story, Cast Unveiled With Trailer

posted on by Sarah Nelkin
Characters revealed for arcade game coming early winter; another project teased

Atlus unveiled the sequel to its Persona 4: The Ultimate in Mayonaka Arena (Persona 4 Arena in North America) video game collaboration with Arc System Works on Thursday with a trailer. The trailer for the Persona 4 The Ultimax Ultrasuplex Hold arcade game introduces the new guest characters Yukari Takeba and Junpei Iori from Persona 3, as well as a brand new original character, Sho Minazuki.

The story takes place only a few days after the events of Persona 4 Arena, when the town of Inaba is clouded in a shroud of red fog in which time is warped and people disappear. Inaba has almost become like the world inside the television. To add to it all, the members of the Persona 4 team find Mitsuru and Akihiko being crucified on the Midnight Channel. In front of the Inaba students appear Yukari and Junpei, members of the Shadow Worker unit who have come to the rural town in order to save their upperclassmen.

Atlus describes the profiles of the new playable characters as follows:

  • Yukari Takeba
  • Voice: Megumi Toyoguchi
  • Main Weapon: Bow & Arrow
  • Type: Shooting Type
  • Persona: Isis
Possible to shoot arrows in various directions. Her Persona Isis uses wind to attack. When Yukari's arrows are hit into the heart of the tempest, her arrows will fly toward the enemy!

Yukari fought together with Mitsuru Kirijo, Akihiko Sanada and friends as one of the members of SEES in order to save the world in Persona 3. She graduated from Gekkōkan Academy and moved on to college, where she is currently working as a female model. However, it is learned that Yukari has skills with the bow, and she is given the role of Pink in the famous sentai program, “Phoenix Ranger Featherman Victory.” One day, a helicopter not used in the filming suddenly appears in the sky. Out of the helicopter appeared Mitsuru Kirijo and her maid Kikuno (a character played by Masumi Asano in the Persona 3 drama CDs). When Yukari learned of Mitsuru's emergency, she flew immediately to Inaba without even taking time to change... Something she would regret later!

  • Junpei Iori
  • Voice: Kōsuke Toriumi
  • Main Weapon: Bat
  • Type: Baseball Type
  • Persona: Trismegistus

Hit attacks with the bat, and get the runner to base! When your points increase, Junpei's attack increases! His Persona Trismegistus uses a fiery charge to attack opponents within a mid-to-distant range.

As with Yukari, Junpei participated in Persona 3. Now 19 years old, he works as an emergency member of Mitsuru's Shadow control police unit, the Shadow Workers. He participates in the unit under Mitsuru's request, but he does not get many calls for action. When he's free from the unit, Junpei works at a part time job while coaching junior league baseball on his days off. He ends up being thrown into a strange incident when he arrives to the rural town of Inaba...

A new character to the series. Nothing is known about him except for his name and appearance.

In addition, to the new characters, a certain amount of characters have Shadow-type characters available to play as. The player may choose to play as the normal character, or their shadow-type.

Kazuhiko Wada is directing the game, while Katsura Hashino is producing it. Shigenori Soejima is designing characters, and Shoji Meguro is the series sound director. In addition, Seiji Fukumoto is working as the director of the 2D portions.

The second round of closed beta tests will be held in Japan from September 27 to September 29. The arcade game is scheduled to debut in Japanese game centers in early winter.

Atlus also opened a "mysterious site" for another project on Thursday:

The meta tag keywords in the site's HTML source list "Persona."

Atlus released the first Persona 4 Ultimate in Mayonaka Arena game in Japan last summer on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles, and Atlus USA released the game in North America.
