Kyoto Animation streams preview for "Kakedasu Monaka" episode

Kyoto Animation began streaming a preview on Monday for the "Kakedasu Monaka" (Running Monaka) extra episode that will be bundled with the seventh Blu-ray Disc and DVD volume of the Sound! Euphonium anime series ("monaka" are wafer sandwich snacks filled with red bean jam).

The official website for the series describes the extra episode as follows:

The 10 members of the concert band club who failed Taki's audition form "Team Monaka" to support the club members participating in the Kyoto Concert Band competition. Even as they support the performers, they continue to hone their playing, and make monaka-shaped good-luck charms to hand out to their club mates before the competition. Although they didn't play in the competition, they still had things they had to do. But on the day of the competition, the members on their way to the concert hall receive a shocking message! This is Team Monaka's hot summer story.

Jukki Hanada is writing the script for the extra episode, Taiichi Ogawa is drawing the storyboards, and Futoshi Nishiya will be the animation director. The seventh Blu-ray Disc and DVD will ship in Japan on December 16.

The anime adapts Ayano Takeda's Hibike! Euphonium: Kitauji Kōkō Suisōgaku-Bu e Yōkoso (Sound! Euphonium Welcome to Kitauji High School's Musical Instrument Club) novel. The novel's story follows the Kitauji Music club, which used to always advance to national competitions. Ever since the adviser changed, however, it has not advanced past the Kansai tournament. However, thanks to the newly appointed adviser's strict instruction, the students are steadily improving. The club members' daily lives are full of ups and downs including fights over solos and the decision to resign club activities to focus on studies. Pony Canyon USA announced that it will localize this anime, with plans to dub it in English.

Crunchyroll streamed the series as it aired.
