Unsung Story RPG's Developer Loses Key Staff, Shifts to Other Projects

Development goals unchanged, though with no release date set yet

Game developer Playdek announced in a Kickstarter update for its Unsung Story: Tale of the Guardians role-playing game on Sunday that the loss of key staff members has "impacted" its progress on the game.

Playdek elaborated that "for the financial strength of the company," it will focus in the near term on other products for which it will aim to get retail releases, before Unsung Story. The company is exploring options for outside development help. The company's development goals regarding the game remain in place, though it cannot provide a new release date for these goals.

The developer plans to release the tactical role-playing game for PC, Mac, Windows tablets, Linux, iOS, and Android.

Final Fantasy Tactics director and Final Fantasy XII creator Yasumi Matsuno launched the Kickstarter campaign in 2014, with a goal of US$600,000. It met its goal less than a day before its deadline, and eventually raised US$660,126.

Final Fantasy Tactics director and Final Fantasy XII creator Yasumi Matsuno presented the proposal for the game and is involved in its overall development, although he is not the director.

The game's timeline follows "many chapters of the sprawling war-torn history of the fantasy world of Rasfalia. The central plot follows the struggles of heroes who fought in the Seventy-Seven Years War between great kingdoms and empires." Each hero's story consists of one episode, with each episode containing multiple stages of gameplay.
