The official website for the television anime adaptation of Higasa Akai's The Royal Tutor (Ōshitsu Kyōshi Heine or Königliche Familie Lehrer) manga launched, revealed the main staff, and unveiled a teaser visual and character designs on Saturday. The anime also launched an official Twitter account.

Kimiko Ueno (Kuromajyo-san ga Tōru!!) is in charge of series composition, and Rena Okuyama (Idol Memories, Sengoku Paradise Kiwami) is designing the characters. Masanori Iizuka (Dog Days, Log Horizon animation director) is designing the props. Junko Nagasawa (Maken-Ki! Battling Venus 2) is serving as art director at Production ai, and Tomoyuki Shiokawa (Mikagura School Suite, Kuromajyo-san ga Tōru!!) is serving as director of photography at T2 Studio.

The main characters include:

Heine Wittgenstein, the royal tutor to four unique princes. Although mistaken for a child, he is actually an adult man.

Kai von Grannzreich, the 17-year-old second prince. He is a silent young man who rarely makes public appearances. He is known as the "Glancing Prince" because of his sharp gaze coercing people.

Bruno von Grannzreich, the 16-year-old third prince. He is a prodigy who has had a sharp mind from a very young age and is called a genius.

Leonhardt von Grannzreich, the 15-year-old fourth prince. He believes he is the most beautiful person on the western continent and calls himself the "White Lily of Grannzreich." He is the "Pride Everest Prince" who hates teachers.

Richt von Grannzreich, the 14-year-old fifth prince. He wears a sweet mask, and his bright personality help him form close relationships with foreign royalty. He is the "Character Prince" whose light and friendly demeanor make him seem to not be royalty.

Square Enix's Monthly G Fantasy magazine announced in October that an anime adaptation of the manga had been green-lit.

Yen Press began releasing the manga as e-books in English in 2015, and it describes the story:

Accepting the post of Royal Tutor at the court of the king of Grannzreich, Heine Wittgenstein is a little professor with a big job ahead! Each of the kingdom's four princes has a rather distinct personality. Does their diminutive new instructor have what it takes to lay down some learning? It's a comedy of educational proportions!

Akai launched the manga in Monthly G Fantasy in November 2013, and Square Enix published the seventh compiled book volume in October.
