YU-NO Sci-Fi Visual Novel Gets Anime Project

MAGES., GENCO, feel. partner for anime of Hiroyuki Kanno's original PC-98 game

MAGES. and 5pb. Games' official website for Hiroyuki Kanno's Kono Yo no Hate de Koi o Utau Shōjo YU-NO (YU-NO: A girl who chants love at the bound of this world.) visual novel announced on Monday that the game is receiving an anime adaptation. The website began streaming a teaser video that reveals that game developer MAGES., production company GENCO, and anime studio feel. are partnering for the anime project. (Note: The linked video is region-locked to Japan on the official website.)

Kadokawa's Comic Clear web manga site announced on September 18 that it would begin serializing a manga adaptation by Sōji Ishida this fall. The website has since updated with a new release window of this winter for the manga.

MAGES. and 5pb. Games' will release a remake of the game in Japan for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita on on March 16 after a second delay. The game was originally slated to ship on February 18, but was delayed to further improve on the game's quality and to conduct a code of ethics inspection (CERO, Japan's rating board, had not yet rated the game as of last December). The game was then slated to ship on November 17, but the staff delayed the release to make the system screens easier to play and navigate through.

The "Original NEC PC-9800 Series Edition" of the remake has also been delayed from December 26 to the same date of March 16, 2017. December 26 marks the 20th anniversary of the original game's release.

The game's cast includes:

Yuu Hayashi as Takuya Arima
Maaya Uchida as Kanna Hatano
Saori Ōnishi as Mitsuki Ichijo
Rie Kugimiya as Mio Shimazu
Yū Kobayashi as Eriko Takeda
Rena Maeda as Kaori Asakura
Kaori Nazuka as Ayumi Arima

MAGES former president Chiyomaru Shikura is serving as executive producer, and former Cave producer Makoto Asada is producing the project. Ryō Nagi (Ar Tonelico, Steel Chronicle) is designing the characters, and the remake credits the original creator Hiroyuki Kanno (EVE Burst Error) for the scripts. Kanno passed away in 2011, just months after YU-NO and EVE Burst Error composer Ryū Umemoto also passed away. Eri Sasaki is performing the opening theme song "Recalling" for the game.

The original, critically acclaimed 1996 game for the PC-98 computer platform inspired the four-part 1998-1999 adult anime YU-NO. 5pb. then released the game for the Sega Saturn in 1997 and for Windows PC in 2000.
