All-new story to connect original manga, new "Clear Card Arc"

An event for the Cardcaptor Sakura franchise revealed on Saturday that a special edition of the third volume of CLAMP's Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card-hen (Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card Arc) manga will bundle a new anime on DVD.

The anime, titled "Sakura to Futatsu no Kuma" (Sakura and the Two Bears), will have an original story that will connect the story of the "Sakura Card Arc" and the "Clear Card Arc," taking place before the start of the "Clear Card Arc." The special edition of the third volume will ship on September 13, and the bundle will cost 3,480 yen (about US$31).

The event showed a promotional video for the anime, which featured a song by Junko Iwao (voice of Tomoyo) titled "Yakusoku no Sora" (The Promised Sky).

The May issue of Kodansha's Nakayoshi magazine is also announcing on Monday that the Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card-hen manga has 1 million copies in print. The second volume of the manga (pictured at right) shipped in Japan on Saturday. A special edition of the second volume includes a post card, tin badges, and a key chain.

CLAMP launched the Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card-hen sequel manga series in Nakayoshi on June 3. The manga is inspiring a television anime adaptation that will premiere on NHK in January 2018.

The anime will feature a returning cast. Morio Asaka is returning from the first television anime series and two films to direct the new series at Madhouse. CLAMP's Nanase Ohkawa is handling the series composition and is writing the scripts. Kunihiko Hamada (animation director for previous TV series and two films) is the character designer.
