Nintendo Stops Production on 'New Nintendo 3DS' Console

New Nintendo 3DS XL still in production, New Nintendo 2DS XL launches in N. America on July 28
Nintendo revealed on Thursday that it has ended production on its New Nintendo 3DS handheld console in Japan. Nintendo is still producing the New Nintendo 3DS LL (XL outside of Japan), New Nintendo 2DS LL/XL, and Nintendo 2DS.
The Nintendo 3DS XL variant shipped in 2012, and the Nintendo 2DS variant shipped in 2013. The New Nintendo 3DS along with its XL variant shipped in 2014 in Japan, and in 2015 in North America. Nintendo revealed in April that it has sold 66.12 million Nintendo 3DS (and its variants) units worldwide.
Nintendo began selling the New Nintendo 2DS LL/XL in Japan on Thursday, and will begin selling the variant on July 28 in North America.
