Anna Akagi, Sara Midorikawa cast in new Pretty Series anime

The official website for Kiratto Pri☆Chan (Sparkling Pri☆Chan), the next anime series in the Pretty Series idol franchise, revealed new characters and a new visual on Wednesday. The staff also revealed the anime's April 8 premiere and ending theme song artist.

The new cast members include:

Yū Serizawa as Anna Akagi, a first-year student in Kirarigaoka Middle School. In her self-produced video channel, she acts like a celebrity, but she is actually childish and selfish. She frequently meddles in Mirai and Emo's business.

Yūki Wakai as Sara Midorikawa, a first-year student in Kirarigaoka Middle School. She is Anna's close friend, and a cool tomboy. She is always right by Anna's side and usually has to restrain Anna from her wild antics.

The World Standard will perform the anime's ending theme song "Pretty ☆ Channel."

The anime will premiere on TV Tokyo and its network affiliates on April 8 at 10:00 a.m., and on BS Japan on April 10 at 5:29 p.m.

Previously announced cast members include:

Koko Hayashi (Run Girls, Run! unit, Wake Up, Girls! New Chapter's Ayumi Hayashi) as Mirai Momoyama, a first-year student in Kirarigaoka Middle School. While she has a curious spirit, she is nevertheless introverted, and dislikes being the center of attention. She likes drawing poorly drawn but charming illustrations. Her catch phrase is "Kiratto" (Sparkling).

Miyu Kubota (i☆Ris unit, PriPara's Sophy Hōjō) as play Emo Moegi, a first-year student in Kirarigaoka Middle School, and Mirai's longtime friend. She is good at sports, and is the type to not look before she leaps. She is very well-informed and updated on the latest trends, but she can also be very fickle. She is a member of her school's cheerleading squad. Her catchphrase is "Emoi" (That's pretty Emo).

Nanami Atsugi (Run Girls, Run! unit, Wake Up, Girls! New Chapter's Itsuka Atsugi) as Rin Aoba, a first-year student in Kirarigaoka Middle School. She is very calm and collected. While she is a quiet and excellent student, she somehow knows a lot about Pri☆Chan, and acts as a supporter and manager to Mirai and Emo.

The new anime will have video uploading and streaming sites as a central focus, and will once again have themes of singing, dancing, fashion, and friendship as part of the series' themes. The series will center on two first-year middle school girls named Mirai Momoyama and Emo Moegi, two aspiring idols who decide to use the "Pri☆Chan System," a system used by famous people and companies to broadcast content. Like many girls starting their own channels and uploading content, the pair decide to become their own producers, starting their own channel in an attempt to become Pri☆Chan idols.

Hiroshi Ikehata (Robot Girls Z, Magical Circle Guru-Guru, Seiyu's Life!) is directing the anime at Tatsunoko Production and Dongwoo A & E. Kazuho Hyodo (Robot Girls Z, Akiba's Trip: The Animation, ReLIFE) is in charge of the series scripts. Hajime Mitsuda (Akiba's Trip: The Animation) is designing the characters. Tatsuya Katō (SukaSuka, Free! - Iwatobi Swim Club, Love Live! Sunshine!!) is composing the music, and the idol unit Run Girls, Run! (featuring Hayashi, Atsugi, and Yūka Morishima) is performing the opening theme song "Kiratto Start."

While the anime is not directly a sequel to the PriPara franchise, it is the second part of syn Sophia's "Pretty Series New Project," which involves both the Pretty Rhythm anime and the loose followup PriPara. The previously announced "Pretty All Friends Project" commemorates the overall Pretty Series franchise's 10-year anniversary, which will take place on 2020.

The characters from the new anime will also appear in the new Gekijōban PriPara & Kiratto Pri☆Chan: Kira Kira Memorial Live (PriPara & Kiratto Kiratto Pri☆Chan The Movie ~Sparkling Memorial Live~) crossover anime film, alongside characters from Pretty Rhythm, PriPara, and Idol Time PriPara. The film opens on May 5.

The Pretty Series began with syn Sophia's Pretty Rhythm: Mini Skirt arcade game in 2010. The game inspired four television anime series, as well as anime film. The sequel game PriPara (Prism Paradise) launched in 2014. The first anime series inspired by the game premiered in July 2014. The franchise's first film, Gekijō-ban PriPara Mi~nna Atsumare! Prism Tours, premiered in March 2015, and the second TV anime season premiered in April 2015. The second anime film, Tobidasu PriPara ~Miina de Mezase! Idol Grand Prix (Spring Out PriPara ~Aim for the Top, Eeeeveryone! Idol Grand Prix), premiered in Japan in October 2015. The anime's third film, PriPara Mi~nna no Akogare Let's Go PriPari (PriPara Eeeeveryone's Longing Let's Go PriPari), premiered in March 2016, and the third television anime season followed in April 2016. The fourth anime series, titled Idol Time PriPara, premiered in April 2017, and is currently airing.

The Pretty Series franchise also includes KING OF PRISM by PrettyRhythm and King of Prism: PRIDE the HERO, two anime films that opened in Japan in 2016 and 2017, respectively. Unlike the main Pretty Rhythm and PriPara series, which focuses on female characters, the two films focused on male characters. The newest entry in the series, Kiratto Pri☆Chan, will premiere in April.
