The official website for Mobile Suit Gundam Narrative (Kidō Senshi Gundam NT), the new anime project for the Gundam franchise, began streaming a long promotional video on Tuesday. The video previews the theme song "narrative" performed by SawanoHiroyuki[nZk]:LiSA. (Note: video on official website is region-locked to Japan.)
Shunichi Yoshizawa (Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolt, Gundam Reconguista in G episode director) is directing the anime at Sunrise Studio #1. Harutoshi Fukui (Mobile Suit Gundam UC) is penning the script. Kumiko Takahashi is in charge of the main original character designs, and Se Jun Kim (Mobile Suit Gundam Twilight AXIS) is designing the characters for animation. Hajime Katoki and Eiji Komatsu are in charge of mechanical design.
Sunrise describes the anime's story:
U.C. 0097, one year after the opening of "Laplace's Box." Despite the revelation of the Universal Century Charter that acknowledges the existence and rights of Newtypes, the framework of the world has not been greatly altered.
The conflict later dubbed the "Laplace Incident" is thought to have ended with the downfall of the Neo Zeon remnants known as the Sleeves. In its final battle, two full psycho-frame mobile suits displayed power beyond human understanding. The white unicorn and the black lion were sealed away to remove this danger from people's consciousness, and they should now be completely forgotten.
However, the RX-0 Unicorn Gundam 03, which disappeared two years earlier, is now about to show itself in the Earth Sphere once more. A golden phoenix... named Phenex.
The new project is set in U.C. 0097 of the Universal Century (U.C.) timeline of the original Mobile Suit Gundam series and Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn. The project's tagline is "The Destination of the Newtype Myth."
The anime is also inspiring manga and novel adaptations. Kōzō Ōmori (Mobile Suit Gundam 00 manga) is drawing the manga, which launched on November 26. The novel also debuted on November 26, and it tells the story of the past of three important characters in the anime. Kiyoto Takeuchi (Appleseed: Ex Machina, Harlock: Space Pirate) penned the novel.
For both the novel and manga projects, Harutoshi Fukui is credited with the story, and Hajime Yatate and Yoshiyuki Tomino are credited for the original work.
