Aniplex of America holds license for anime premiering in January

Aniplex of America announced on Thursday that it will stream the television anime of Aka Akasaka's Kaguya-sama: Love is War (Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai: Tensai-tachi no Renai Zunōsen) manga on Hulu, Crunchyroll, and FunimationNOW beginning on January 12. The company began streaming an English-subtitled trailer.

The anime will premiere on Tokyo MX, Gunma TV, Tochigi TV, and BS11 on January 12 at 11:30 p.m. The series will also debut later that night on MBS, Chukyo TV, and TV Niigata. An advance screening with the anime's cast members will be held at United Cinemas Toyosu in Tokyo on January 5.

Viz Media is publishing the manga in English, and it describes the story:

All's fair when love is war!

Two geniuses. Two brains. Two hearts. One battle. Who will confess their love first…?!

Kaguya Shinomiya and Miyuki Shirogane are two geniuses who stand atop their prestigious academy's student council, making them the elite among elite. But it's lonely at the top and each has fallen for the other. There's just one huge problem standing in the way of lovey-dovey bliss—they're both too prideful to be the first to confess their romantic feelings and thus become the “loser” in the competition of love! And so begins their daily schemes to force the other to confess first!

Mamoru Hatakeyama (Shōwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjū, Record of Grancrest War, Sankarea: Undying Love) is directing the anime at A-1 Pictures. Yasuhiro Nakanishi (Shiawase Restaurant, Digimon Adventure tri.- Chapter 4: Loss) is supervising the series scripts. Yuuko Yahiro (Diabolik Lovers, Katana Maidens: Toji no Miko) is the character designer, and is also credited as chief animation director alongside Hiroshi Yakou and Yūko Hariba.
