HoriPro International holds audition for protagonist character

Tatsunoko and agency HoriPro International announced on Saturday that Tatsunoko Production's Tondemo Senshi Muteking hero gag anime is getting a reboot television series titled Muteking the Dancing Hero that will air in 2020.

The companies are hosting an audition for who will voice the titular character Muteking (the name is a pun on the word "muteki," which means "invincible"). The winner will voice the character and will also have a singing debut with character songs, and will get a contract with HoriPro International. HoriPro is accepting applications for the audition until July 19, and after several rounds, the final round will take place on September 8.

The original anime aired for 56 episodes in 1980-1981, and has not received a release in English. The anime took place in a city modeled after San Francisco at the time, and featured a protagonist who could transform into "Muteking" to fight evil aliens. The anime became known for its novel design and music.

The project's official website describes the reboot anime as a "sci-fi hero romantic comedy."
