This year's 35th volume of Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine revealed on Wednesday that Dagashi Kashi manga creator Kotoyama will launch in the new Yofukashi no Uta (Night Owl Song) manga (large left image in image below) in the 39th issue on August 28. The magazine describes the series as a "night owl love story."

In addition, Makoto Hoshino will launch the Nokemono-tachi no Yoru (Night of the Outcasts) manga in the magazine's combined 36th and 37th issue on August 7. Yomogi Mogi will launch the five-chapter mini-series Mada Minu Field de in the 38th issue on August 21. Hikaru Nikaidō's Aozakura Bōei Daigakkō Monogatari and Kagiji Kumanomata's Sleepy Princess in the Demon Castle manga will have "super important announcements" in the 40th issue on September 4 and the 42nd issue on September 18, respectively.

Kotoyama began the Dagashi Kashi manga in Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine in June 2014, and ended it in April 2018. The manga has 3 million copies in print as of February 2018, and it was nominated for the 41st annual Kodansha Manga Awards in 2017. Shogakukan published the manga's 11th and final volume in May 2018.

The first 12-episode television anime adaptation of Dagashi Kashi premiered in January 2016. Funimation streamed the series with subtitles as it aired in Japan, and also streamed an English dub. The company released the anime on DVD and Blu-ray Disc in April 2017. The second 12-episode season premiered in January 2018. Crunchyroll and Funimation streamed Dagashi Kashi 2 as it aired in Japan. Funimation then released the second season of the anime on home video in October.

Kotoyama released the "Itookashi" one-shot manga in Weekly Shonen Sunday in December.
