posted on by Alex Mateo

This year's event was held from July 16 through August 3 in Montreal.
The Fantasia International Film Festival's Audience Awards is determined by popular vote from those who attended the film festival. In 2024, Ghost Cat Anzu won gold, and the Mononoke The Movie: Phantom in the Rain anime film won bronze for the Best Animated Feature category.
Netflix will stream the second film on August 14.
The film premiered in Japan on March 14, and earned 98,093,680 yen (about US$675,360) in its first three days.
Hiroshi Kamiya reprises his role as the Medicine Seller. Other returning cast includes Haruka Tomatsu as Botan Ōtomo, Yōko Hikasa as Fuki Tokita, and Yūki Kaji as Saburōmaru Tokita.
Aina The End performs the film's theme song "Hana Musō."
The film screened at the 2025 Annecy International Animation Film Festival on June 8-14, marking its Western premiere.
Mononoke The Movie: Phantom in the Rain (Gekijōban Mononoke: Karakasa), the Mononoke project's first film, premiered in Japan in July 2024. Netflix is also streaming the film. The film was previously slated to open in 2023, but was delayed. Alongside the announcement of the delay in February 2023, the film's staff also announced that Takahiro Sakurai would no longer reprise the role of the Medicine Seller as originally planned. Kamiya instead voices the protagonist the Medicine Seller in the film.
The third film, Gekijōban Mononoke Dai-San-Shō: Hebigami, will open in spring 2026.
