HOUSTON, July 11, 2005 —ADV Films, the number one producer-distributor of anime in North America, is pleased to announce five exciting new DVDs set to hit the streets on August 9: the second volume of the genre-bending goth anime Gilgamesh, volume eight in the action-comedy Getbackers, the fourth Saiyuki: Double Barrel Collection, the affordable Thinpak Pretear: Complete Collection, and the fifth volume in the extras-packed Farscape: Starburst Edition. It's truly an embarrassment of riches, as ADV once again delivers the most complete lineup of any anime distributor anywhere!

GILGAMESH: Cage Without A Key

Goth Meets Anime In The Stylish Post-Apocalyptic Thriller

ADV continues to redefine anime August 9 with Gilgamesh: Cage Without A Key, the second volume in the innovative new DVD series with a cool Goth edge.

Gilgamesh is the new sci-fi masterpiece from Shotaro Ishinomori (Cyborg 009, Kamen Rider). Ishinomori has created a dark, post-apocalyptic world where the sky has been turned into a psychedelic mirror, and civilization is only a shadow of its former self. Where beautiful assassins transform into terrifying winged creatures. Where children are born with amazing powers. And where a brother and sister are hunted by organizations with shadowy agendas. Gorgeous animation, breakthrough character designs, and stunning visuals make this suspenseful, addictive tale of mystery, magic, and espionage the first gothic masterpiece of the new millennium!

Synopsis: When subtle seduction doesn't work, the black-clad clan of Gilgamesh uses force, kidnapping Kiyoko and trying to coerce her to join their cause. The dark Countess and her band of young mutants, however, continue with their own attempt to sway Kiyoko and her brother Tatsuya to side with them—and as Tatsuya's psychic powers increase under their guidance, their plan seems to be working. But the real battles are just beginning.

Gilgamesh: Cage Without A Key (SRP $29.98 DVD) is a DVD-only release including episodes six through nine, presented in both English 5.1 and Japanese 2.0 with English subtitles. Video extras include production art, character art, and a special behind-the-scenes segment “Revelations: In the Studio with Orga,” plus clean opening animation, clean closing animation, and previews of upcoming ADV Films releases.

Classic Series Now Available In a Stunning New Package – and an Unbeatable Price!

The Saiyuki saga is essential viewing for any true anime fan. Now, thanks to ADV Films, there's no reason not to own it! The fourth volume in the Saiyuki Double Barrel Collection, containing over 200 minutes of classic demon-hunting action on two disks for just $29.98, hits stores everywhere August 9.

Based on the original 16th-century Chinese novel Xiyouji by Wu Cheng-En, Saiyuki first began to take shape with an animated version of the tale in the late 1960s. The current incarnation features a colorful cast of characters based on the popular manga by Kazuya Minekura and features the production work of TV Tokyo (Noir), Dentsu Inc. (Final Fantasy Unlimited) and Studio Pierrot (The Super Milk-chan Show, Naruto).

Synopsis: He is powerful enough to grant divinity to demons who become his loyal subjects. He is Homura, the Prince of War, and he's hellbent on forming an army capable of overthrowing the heavens—and with one machine gun-toting buddy and a laserwhip-cracking accomplice, he just might be able to pull it off. But to conquer the gods who banished him from paradise, he'll have to take care of two little obstacles. First, he'll have to steal the precious Seiten Scripture. And second, he'll have to defeat the Sanzo party. And Sanzo, Gojyo, and Hakkai aren't about to give up the ghost (or their lives) so easily. And Goku sure as hell isn't. But when Homura meets Goku, he realizes this small but powerful demon child may just be even more powerful and more valuable to his cause than any ancient text could ever be.

Saiyuki Barrel Collection ($29.98 SRP) is a 2-disc DVD-only release including 8 complete episodes presented on 2 DVDs. Audio is presented in English 5.1 and Japanese 2.0 with English subtitles. PRETEAR: Complete Collection

An Affordable Thinpak Collection of the Shojo Anime Series

ADV is pleased to announce a new Thinpak collection containing every episode of the acclaimed shojo anime series Pretear. The Pretear Complete Collection will be available everywhere anime is sold August 9.

Pretear, a mahou shojo series, combines elements of the fairy tales Cinderella (new stepmother and evil stepsisters) and Snow White (seven knights instead of seven dwarves). It was created by Kaori Naruse and noted anime fantasy ace Junichi Sato (director of the first series of Sailor Moon and creator of Kaleido Star). On its 2001 Japanese release, the title was lauded for its intense animation, in-depth characterizations, exciting battle scenes, and beautiful soundtrack. The opening song “White Destiny” is sung by Japanese singing sensation Yoko Ishida.

Synopsis: When the Princess of Disaster escapes from Leafenia, sixteen-year-old Himeno Awayuki finds herself at the center of a titanic struggle. The Princess wants to destroy the world. The Leafe Knights are sworn to protect it. And Himeno may be the Pretear, the person who can transform into a magical super heroine and defeat the Princess of Disaster. But Himeno may not want the job! Her relationship with her stepmother and stepsisters is a mess. And the handsome knight Hayate is making Himeno nervous! What's a girl to do?

Fifth Volume Of The Deluxe Starburst Series

ADV Films is pleased to announce the fifth installment of its wildly successful Farscape: Starburst Edition series, with an expanded and updated volume that takes us through the midpoint in the second season of the classic sci-fi series. Farscape: Starburst Edition 2.2 will be available everywhere DVDs are sold on August 9.

Farscape is an adventure as broad and weird as the universe – full of strange creatures, bizarre twists, irreverent humor, raucous action, passion, and romance! Produced in Australia by The Jim Henson Company and Hallmark Entertainment, Farscape has been called “The Best Sci-Fi on TV,” by TV Guide, and hailed as “TV's Best Space Series” by USA Today. Farscape also received the Saturn Award for Best Syndicated/Cable Series three years in a row (2001, 2002, 2003).

Farscape: Starburst Edition 2.2 (SRP $24.98 DVD) is a DVD-only release including seven episodes presented in both English 5.1 and 2.0. This collection is packed with goldmine of exclusive extras – a real “drenload” if you know your Farscape lingo!

First off, there's “Building Zhaan,” an in-depth interview with Virginia Hey (Zhaan), filmed exclusively for the Starburst Edition. Ms. Hey covers the gamut in this 30+ minute interview, discussing her childhood, thoughts on spirituality, and how her personal background informed her characterization of the inimitable blue priestess, Zhaan.

Next, with the kind permission of the Jim Henson Company, we dip back into the archives to present segments from never-before-seen directors cuts of two unforgettable episodes from Season 1 – “The Flax” and “Through the Looking Glass.” Seeing these episodes in their unfinished, “raw” form will give you new insight into the complexities of producing Farscape.

Then, we have another Starburst Edition exclusive: “Listening In” with Composer Guy Gross. Join us as we visit the celebrated Farscape composer in his Sydney studio to explore his score for “My Three Crichtons.” There are also deleted scenes and a hilarious Season 2 blooper reel. Brush up on your Farscape lingo by playing the interactive FarSpeak Game, this time covering the delectable topic “The Moya Menu.”

There are brand new installments of the Starburst staples “The Farscape Chronicles” by Paul Simpson (Farscape: The Illustrated Companion), “Alien Encounters,” and “Cool Farscape Facts.” Rounding out this powerhouse collection are Actor Biographies for Anthony Simcoe (D'Argo) and Virginia Hey (Zhaan), Character Backstories for D'Argo and Zhann, an Alien Races Multimedia Glossary, and an extensive Production Design Gallery. Super extras and seven great episodes make this collection a must-have for every Farscape fan!
