DreamWorks SKG was founded by renowned director Steven Spielberg, ex-Disney executive Jeffrey Katzenberg and music industry tycoon David Geffen (hence the SKG in the company's name). Since the company's inception in 1994, DreamWorks has been a leading force in the entertainment industry with its array of highly acclaimed motion picture releases, animated features and other products on home video and television programming.
On December 2005, DreamWorks - along with GoFish Pictures - was sold to Viacom for $1.6 billion. DreamWorks Animation SKG, however, remains an independent entity.
