May'n Sings Taboo-Tattoo Action TV Anime's Opening Theme

Macross F/Accel World/Aquarion Logos singer contributes to super-powered battle show

The official website for the television anime of Shinjirō's Taboo Tattoo manga announced on Sunday that May'n (Macross Frontier, Accel World, Aquarion Logos) will perform the opening theme song "Belief." May'n says that she became a big fan of the manga after reading the entire series so far in one sitting.

Shinjirō launched the"stylish super-powered battle action" manga in Comic Alive magazine from Kadokawa's Media Factory imprint in November 2009. Yen Press published the second volume in North America in April, and it describes the story:

By all accounts, middle schooler Seigi is pretty unremarkable except for his martial arts prowess and a desire to protect the weak. But when his good intentions are put to the test by saving an old homeless man from some street thugs, the mysterious man shows his gratitude by...burning a tattoo onto Seigi's palm?!

It turns out, the tattoo is a powerful secret weapon that everyone--including a formidable girl with a tattoo of her own--is after. With his life on the line and his martial arts skills alone no match against super-powered foes, will Seigi be able to unlock the latent potential of his tattoo and live to fight another day?!

The cast includes:

Makoto Furukawa as Justice Akatsuka (nickname Seigi), a boy who had a strange rune engraved on his hand after saving a mysterious man. A user of Akatsuka-style Jujitsu, he is trained by his vigorous grandfather. His nickname is the Japanese word for Justice.

Chika Anzai as Tōko Ichinose, Justice's childhood friend and classmate.

Mikako Komatsu as Bluesy Fluesy (nickname Easy). A girl who suddenly appeared in front of Justice. She has the physical strength to overpower him.

Takashi Watanabe (The Slayers, Shakugan no Shana, Freezing, Heavy Object) is directing the "stylish action epic" series at the anime studio J.C. Staff. Shinya Hasegawa (Golden Time, Revolutionary Girl Utena) will design the characters and Mayori Sekijima (Skip Beat!, Pandora Hearts) and Masateru Ohtake will handle series composition and scripts. Shinji Hosoe is composing the music.

The anime will premiere in July.
