SaikouCon Staff to Take Part in Earth Hour 2014 on March 29

Convention Encourages Others to Participate As Well

3/24/14 Breinigsville, PA – SaikouCon, which means "best convention”, is the Lehigh Valley's first and only large scale, annual anime convention.

Boasting a dedicated staff of longtime Japanese anime and manga fans, SaikouCon is excited to be the only annual convention dedicated exclusively to anime, manga, and Japanese culture and pop culture in this area of Northeast Pennsylvania.

The convention promises to remain very hands and attendee friendly every year, also maintaining a safe atmosphere for attendees to enjoy the convention to their carefree fullest. As always, Cosplay =/= Consent is a very important issue to the staff of SaikouCon, and the same rules and regulations that made SaikouCon 2013 a safe haven for cosplayers will be enforced just as strictly at SaikouCon 2014.

SaikouCon is proud to announce that the staff will be taking part in Earth Hour 2014, we encourage you all to participate and start your own Earth conscious projects and show that even at the so-called "11th Hour" each person can make a positive difference. Watch the video from the organization at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hZhbIyrx4AQ, featuring the cast of The Amazing Spider-Man 2; this year's official ambassadors for Earth Hour thanks to the film being the most environmentally conscious blockbuster film in Hollywood history. 2014 also introduces Earth Hour Blue, a brand new way for eco-conscious projects to make headlines and find funding through crowd sourcing.

On March 29, 2014 at 8:30 – 9:30 pm in your local time zone, Earth Hour will commence, participating in Earth Hour is as simple as turning off all lights, TVs, computers, and all unessential electronics and appliances in your home or office. Earth Hour is a global movement uniting people to protect the planet. Towards the end of March every year, Earth Hour brings together communities from across the world celebrating a commitment to the planet by switching off lights for one designated hour. Earth Hour aims to encourage an interconnected global community to share the opportunities and challenges of creating a sustainable world. Earth Hour encourages individuals, businesses and governments to show leadership on environmental solutions through their actions, to use Earth Hour as a platform to showcase to the world what measures they are taking to reduce their environmental impact. Earth Hour asks everyone to take personal accountability for their impact on the planet and make behavioral changes to facilitate a sustainable lifestyle. Taking the first step is as easy as turning off your lights. By switching off your lights for Earth Hour you are acknowledging and celebrating your commitment to do something more for the planet that goes beyond the hour. The first Earth Hour event was on March 31 2007. WWF-Australia inspired Sydney-siders to show their support for climate change action. More than 2.2 million individuals and 2,000 businesses turned their lights out for one hour in the first Earth Hour event. Earth Hour 2014 will mark the eighth year of the campaign.

What is Earth Hour Blue? Earth Hour Blue is an all-new digital crowdfunding and crowdsourcing platform for the planet launched in 2014 to capture the power of the crowd and engage people around the world beyond the famous hour-long lights out event. The crowdfunding section of the platform allows participants to financially support and deliver positive, tangible changes to people and communities all over the world. Individuals can also use Earth Hour Blue's crowdsourcing platform, which will call for people to add their voice to some of the biggest environmental campaigns across the world.
