Shingo Natsume, Natsume Ono, Madhouse Team Up for Original Theatrical Anime 'ghost'

Bandai Namco Filmworks announced on Monday that Madhouse is producing a new theatrical anime project tentatively titled ghost. The anime is slated for release in theaters in 2027.
The first visual below depicts a mysterious girl named Nike holding a glass sword.

Shingo Natsume (ACCA: 13-Territory Inspection Dept., One Punch Man, Sonny Boy, Space Dandy) is both directing the anime at Madhouse and penning the script. Manga creator Natsume Ono (ACCA 13-Territory Inspection Department, Ristorante Paradiso, House of Five Leaves, Not Simple) is in charge of the original character designs. Norifumi Kugai (ACCA: 13-Territory Inspection Dept., Sonny Boy) is designing the characters for animation.
The work marks Shingo Natsume's first time directing an original anime film.
Shingo Natsume stated regarding the film that he is aiming for "a work that could be called fictional but is in tune with our current time and seeks realism."
Bandai Namco Filmworks stated regarding the film:
Everyone has a "ghost" in their hearts. It is a genuine feeling that is there but inexpressible. In this work, the girl Nike opposes the absurdity of the world in order to protect the "starry sky." This challenging work expresses Nike's solitude and heroism, and the subtleties of the heart as she interacts with others.
The film will have a pitch session on Tuesday at the MIFA 2025 event in conjunction with the Annecy International Animation Film Festival.
