Tamsoft and Tomy released the original Battle Arena Toshinden game as one of the first fighting games in a 3D environment for the PlayStation in 1995. The sequel Battle Arena Toshinden 2 launched in December of the same year, and Battle Arena Toshinden 3 launched in 1996.
The games inspired an anime adaptation in 1996. Central Park Media released the series in North America. The series received an English dub.
