"I believe the biggest reason is that the kids who read the series at the time have grown up and are now in positions where they can create as creators. I believe there are still people out there who want to bring the series they used to read back in the day to life on screen with their own hands." - Solid logic about remakes.

I'd like think the real reason both these series remain relevant today is that...they just simply look cool.

I picked up the first omnibuses of Cat’s Eye and City Hunter and have truly enjoyed them. I have noticed the subtle changes made in the new Cat’s Eye anime currently airing and sadly the interpersonal connections shown in the manga, ie a look, an arched eyebrow, an eye roll or huff between the sisters are not making the cut for the anime.
It was very, very interesting to find out the female fandom for Cat’s Eye, which is a no brainer after reading the first omnibuses. I always equated Rurouni Kenshin being the first Shonen Jump with explosive female readership. I hope Hōjō will appear at an American anime convention in the next year or two, so English fans can really share their appreciation. |

Neko: He did a couple American cons in the early 2000s.

I don't read interviews very often or just skim through them, but something about Tsukasa Hojo just tells me he's a really chill guy. No strange sentences or fluff, just straightforward and honest.
He simply wants to entertain people and succeeds. He even risked scare off female audiences with Ryo, but it paid off and got even bigger. Love to read that. I personally love his work. Admittedly I've only seen anime adaptions of those works, but I would like to change that in the near future. And yes, I am watching the new Cat's Eye anime. |
