Comics Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert Riff on Cain's Pokémon Quote

U.S. politician credits 2000 film after citing "poet" during presidential campaign

In Monday's episodes of Jon Stewart's The Daily Show and Stephen Colbert's The Colbert Report, the comedians riffed U.S. presidential candidate Herman Cain after he acknowledged quoting a Pokémon anime film throughout his campaign on Saturday. Stewart also referenced and showed a clip of the Pokémon Mewtwo and Mew from Pokémon: The First Movie.

During Cain's Saturday speech in which he announced that he is "suspending" his campaign, he said, "I believe these words came from the Pokémon movie. Life can be a challenge. Life can seem impossible. It's never easy when there's so much on the line... But you and I can make a difference. There's a mission just for You and Me."

Throughout his campaign until Saturday, Cain had quoted the same words but cited a "poet." Cain was actually paraphrasing Donna Summer's "The Power of One" closing song from the English-dubbed version of Pokémon 2000 - The Movie. (The film was released in Japan in 1999, but came out in the United States a year later).
