Rurouni Kenshin x Kumamon April Fool's Joke Gets Phone Straps
posted on by Lynzee Loveridge
Earlier this month, the Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Taika-hen film page announced that its main actor Takeru Satoh would be replaced by Kumamon, the popular mascot of Kyushu's Kumamoto Prefecture as an April Fool's joke. What started out as a gag has now spawned some legitimate merchandise.
Customers who order advanced tickets to Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Taika-hen and Rurouni Kenshin: Densetsu no Saigo-hen by May 3 will get a Kumamon cellphone strap. There is both a Kenshin Kumamon and Shishio Kumamon. The tie-in started after the films began shooting in Kumamoto.
Advance ticketholders will also get one of a limited 30,000 clear files.
Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Taika-hen will open on August 1 followed by Densetsu no Saigo-hen on September 13.
