Ryō Katsuji is Very Adamant That His Friends Play Destiny with Him

Noted gamer actor introduces other actors to FPS in commercial

Japanese actor Ryō Katsuji (Ogisu in Crows Explode, Shinjūrō in Un-Go, Agito in Origin: Spirits of the Past) is a big fan of video games in his spare time. But it can be hard for gamers to encourage more casual players to give their favorite games a try. In a new commercial for the upcoming Destiny expansion pack, Destiny: The Taken King, he goes for the intimidation tactic.

The friends he meets with are fellow actors Aoi Koizumi (the Prophecy drama, Taiyō no Suwaru Basho) and Mihiro (Strobe Edge, Saikyō no Onna). In the interview below, Katsuji recounts how he would entice other actors to play games, especially Call of Duty, where his expertise led to him being referred to as "Your Excellency." He singles out Destiny's maps and interesting variety of attacks among the three characters as reasons why he likes the game. He compares games to drinking parties for their ability to foster camaraderie and companionship. Then, because it's also his birthday, his friends bring out a birthday cake for him. Finally Katsuji is asked whether Koizumi is his "lover of destiny," but he rejects the notion since she's not good enough at the game.

You can also watch the three play through two missions of Destiny together: Last Array and The Summoning Pits. See for yourselves whether Katsuji is that much better than his friends.

Destiny: The Taken King will be released on September 15 in North America and September 17 in Japan. For similar footage of Japanese actors getting overly involved in video games, check out our article on Takayuki Yamada playing Batman: Arkham Knight.
