Character Designer Akio Watanabe Draws Cardcaptor Sakura at Official Café

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

Character designer Akio Watanabe, also known as Poyoyon Rock, headed to one of the six Animate cafés hosting a Cardcaptor Sakura theme this month. He ordered the Tomoyo Afternoon Tea Set and Kuro-chan's Hot Orange Cocoa before drawing his rendition of the show's lead character.

Watanabe is the character designer behind the Monogatari Series' television adaptations and Nurse Witch Komugi-chan.

The original Cardcaptor Sakura magical girl manga series ran in Nakayoshi from May 1996 to June 2000, and Kodansha published 12 volumes of the manga from November 1996 to July 2000. The series is the midst of its 20th anniversary celebration. The creative team CLAMP are publishing a new short story manga and NHK's BS Premium began re-running the Clow Card arc of the Cardcaptor Sakura anime starting on April 6. A book compiling previously published illustrations (cover pictured at right) shipped on March 24.

The official anniversary website also announced an upcoming collaboration with the lolita brand Baby, the Stars Shine Bright. The popular fashion brand will make Sakura's outfit featured on the cover of the artbook. The Japan Post also released a series of Cardcaptor Sakura stamps starting on April 1.
