Game developer Tatsuya Kando announced on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday that he parted ways with Square Enix the day before, after working at the company for 29 years. He vowed to keep making interesting content that brings a smile to everyone's face in the future.

Kando was known for his work as director on the original The World Ends with You game for the Nintendo DS, as well as his role as series director for the franchise.

During his time at Square Enix he also contributed to projects such as Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts.

Kando also served as supervisor on the anime adaptation of The World Ends with You, and is credited as part of the Kingdom Team for the Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children movie.

NEO: The World Ends with You (Shin Subarashii Kono Sekai), the sequel game to Square Enix's The World Ends with You action RPG, launched on PS4 and Switch in English and Japanese in July 2022. It then also got releases on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.
