Save the World's Music in Show By Rock!! Real Escape Game

posted on by Amanda Ellard

TV anime SHOW BY ROCK!! bursts into Sanrio's Puroland theme park in a new Real Escape Game attraction, "Pyu~ru Land the Escape from the Ultimate Crisis!"

Puroland appeared in the anime as the virtual theme park "Pyu~ru Land". In the escape game, participants become members of the band, and have to clear the mystery with hands-on activities within one hour before the Queen of Darkness' "Black Hole Cannon" reaches Pyu~ru Land.

Today is the once-a-year Pyu~land Festival. For this day, the appearing band trained extra hard. Pyu~ru Land Festival's opening band is Plasmagica! At the height of the performances' climax, you suddenly received a message from the Queen of Darkness. "My name is the Queen of Darkness. I will destroy Pyu~ru Land Festival and I will take away all of the musical energy from the universe!" The Queen of Darkness pointed and fired a huge beam gun "Black Hole Cannon" at Pyu~ru Land. At this rate, Pyu~ru land and all of the world's music will fade away. You have one hour to escape from this ultimate crisis using the power of music.

The attraction will be open for four weekends this January: 7-9, 14-15, 21-22, 28-29. Tickets are 4,500 yen (US$43.76) including the event theme song CD or 3,500 yen (US$34.03) without the CD. Aside from the new CD, the attraction will have other special edition goods available and every ticket comes with an original event rubber-band present. Plasmagica, the main character band of the anime and starter group for the game, performs the event theme song. The voice actors also recorded many new lines specifically for the Real Escape Game.

The is the first time that the Sanrio theme park has tried to carry out such a hands-on, realistic event. SHOW BY ROCK!! was originally a smartphone app rhythm game created by Sanrio and Geechs targeting older males and young adults rather than Sanrio's usual demographic. They released the game in 2013 for iOS and in 2014 for Android phones. The following year, studio Bones released an anime adaptation series and the first episode of season 2 just aired on October 2.

SCRAP is the company responsible for creating these escape game attractions, which generally include players working together to solve problems and complete tasks within a time limit in order to escape or win the game. They recently debuted their third Attack on Titan escape game event, along with escape games for other popular anime series including One Piece, Death Note, and Detective Conan.
