Manga Artist Inio Asano Draws Visual for Kawasaki Festival

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

Manga artist Inio Asano (Goodnight Punpun, Solanin) drew one seriously surreal visual for the upcoming Natsu no Mamono 2017 in Kawasaki festival. The poster looks like it took at least one cue from Hieronymus Bosch's "The Garden of Earthly Delights" painted triptych, which is fitting given the festival's translated title is "The Summer Demon."

The festival will take place on September 10 at Ogishima East Park in Kanagawa. The festival organizer Daichi Narita, from the entertainment unit which the event takes its name, requested Asano. Asano previously drew the jacket illustration for Mari Izumi's "UTANINARE!!/Watashi" single released this year. Izumi is another member of the the Natsu no Mamono entertainment group.

This year is the first time the Natsu no Mamono festival is taking place in Kanto. Participating acts include Group Tamashii's guitarist Bōdō, Ronzi of Bahman, actress Yuka Kuramochi, Weekly Famitsu magazine, Mikado game center, idol duo Vanilla Beans, character Omochialien, Spike-Chunsoft's Fire Pro Wrestling game, and many more.

Manga artists Rensuke Oshikiri and Yudetamago drew previous years' visuals. Asano previously drew artwork for this year's Asian Kung-Fu Generation tribute album.

Viz Media announced at Comic-Con International that it will publish Inio Asano's Dead Dead Demon's Dededededestruction manga in English. Viz Media has published Asano's previous series Solanin and What a Wonderful World!, and is publishing the Goodnight Punpun manga. Fantagraphics Books published Asano's horror manga Nijigahara Holograph in 2014, and Vertical Comics published Asano's A Girl on the Shore manga last year.
