Haruhi's SOS Brigade Reunite at Lantis Matsuri Concert

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

The third day of the Lantis Matsuri concerts included a performance by The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya's SOS Brigade. Voice actresses Aya Hirano, Minori Chihara, and Yuko Goto reunited for the first time since their surprise performance at Animelo Summer Live 2017. Unlike the Animelo concert, this time Hirano, Chihara, and Goto were joined by Itsuki Koizumi and Kyon voice actors Daisuke Ono and Tomokazu Sugita. This was the first performance by the entire SOS Brigade in 12 years.

The group performed five songs on June 23. Hirano (Haruhi Suzumiya) performed the anime's opening theme "Bōken de-show de-show?", Chihara (Yuki Nagato) sang the character song "Yuki, Muon, Madobe Nite," Yuko Goto (Mikuru Asahina) performed the opening theme "Koi no Mikuru Densetsu" from the series' first broadcast episode "The Adventures of Mikuru Asahina," and Ono sang the character image song "Maggāre ↓ Spectacle." The group then gathered together to close out with the ending theme "Hare Hare Yukai."

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya remains in fans' memory, in part because the official website is updated every year with the character's "disappearance" sometimes followed by new anime announcements.

Hirano will hold her first live concert in four years this summer. Hirano has scheduled shows in Tokyo, Kanagawa, Osaka and Aichi in August. The concerts will include original songs by Hirano, anime theme songs, and musical theater songs.

This year she's appeared at Quebec's Nadeshicon and U.S.-based FanimeCon and Kawaii Kon conventions.
