Chalk artist and illustrator Eric M. Maruscak created an amazing piece of Laid-Back Camp art at the Otakon convention in Washington DC last weekend. Maruscak shared his progress on the piece over the course of the convention and even attracted the attention of Laid-Back Camp's production team and director. Overall the piece took Maruscak 28 hours to complete.
Day one progress on the @Otakon #yurucamp Chalk Art, from assembling the sketch (first time I have actually seen the entire thing all at once) to the end of the day when I complete all of the sky. Enjoy these photos and stop by tomorrow to say hi! #chalkart #anime #Otakon2019 pic.twitter.com/mXReCkXdW7— Eric the All-Purpose Artist (@pepperink) July 27, 2019
@Otakon day two is in the books. The #Yurucamp mural is coming along nicely. Today was a long and tiring 12 hours, but having the production team, director, voice actress and original artist stop by and approve of my work made it all worth it! #chalkart #anime #Otakon2019 pic.twitter.com/5bBp2Piq75— Eric the All-Purpose Artist (@pepperink) July 28, 2019
Otakon hosted Laid-Back Camp producer Shōichi Hotta, director Yoshiaki Kyōgoku, and voice actress Sayuri Hara (Chiaki Ohgaki). Maruscak's art was also shared by the official Laid-Back Camp Twitter account.
The first Laid-Back Camp anime premiered in January 2018, and Crunchyroll streamed the 12-episode series as it aired. The anime's home video release in Japan included an "episode 0" anime. The series will get a new film, short form anime, and a second regular television season.
