X Japan's Yoshiki Interviewed by BBC

BONO talks of warning against coronavirus, the importance of his fans to him

The BBC has broadcast an interview with YOSHIKI, leader of rock band X Japan, which can be seen above. The interview relates to YOSHIKI's participation in the "Sing for Life" video, a collaboration between BONO, YOSHIKI, Will.i.am and Jennifer Hudson. The song was based on BONO's previous song, "Let Your Love Be Known."

In the interview, shown on BBC World News, YOSHIKI talks about urging fans to recognise the severity of coronavirus. He talks of his fans as being "maybe more important" than his life. "Because my life was surrounded by death," YOSHIKI says. My father committed suicide, my bandmember died [referring to guitarist Hideto "Hide" Matsumoto], my fans are the ones who saved me, saved my life. So I really want to support my fans."

The segment was posted on YouTube by the BBC interviewer, Kasia Madera.

X Japan's most notable anime contributions were the songs in the music video collection and later X movie. The animation Studio Madhouse adapted both productions from CLAMP's X manga. The surviving band members — Toshimitsu "Toshi" Deyama, Yoshiki Hayashi, Tomoaki "Pata" Ishizuka, and Hiroshi "Heath" Morie — reunited in 2007, ten years after they first disbanded and nine years after the death of Matsumoto.
