Japanese food and biotechnology corporation Ajinomoto released a new online commercial starring voice actor Mamoru Miyano for its popular monosodium glutamate (MSG) brand Aji-No-Moto on Tuesday:
The 15-second video features Miyano, with highly exaggerated expressions, trying Aji-No-Moto MSG on several dishes and drinks: nattō (pungent fermented soybeans), flavored french fries, fried rice, miso soup, stir-fried vegetables, peperoncino spaghetti, soda (not recommended), whiskey, instant ramen, toast, kamatama udon (noodles with a raw egg cooked right on the noodles), and raw eggs on rice.
Japanese news outlet Nijimen posted an interview with Miyano about the commercial after its launch. When asked about his time on set, Miyano stated since he had worked with the director in the past, he was able to film the commercial in a natural and fun way.
Regarding a scene that left an impression on him, Miyano said, “All the food I had during the shoot was really delicious, and I was particularly surprised by the combination of Aji-No-Moto and whiskey.” He further stated, “It was an unexpected combination, but I would like to try it at home, and I thought Aji-No-Moto would go well with my favorite sushi.”
The full interview is available on the Nijimen website.
