The novel is set in a near-future Japan suffering from a widely spreading drug called "Dope." The novel centers on Yūto Saiki, a rookie officer in the government's narcotics agency who signed up because he lost his mother to Dope as a child. He is assigned to the agency's secretive Special Investigations unit, and there paired up with Teppei Jinnai, solving Dope-related narcotics crimes together.

Kisaki published the novel in August 2022 with illustrations by Tomio Ogata. The novel is inspiring an upcoming live-action television series adaptation that will premiere on TBS on July 4.

Kisaki and Hako Ichiiro's Hakata Tonkotsu Ramens light novel series launched in 2014, and concluded in the 14th novel volume in May 2024.The novel series won the first prize for the 20th Dengeki Novel Awards. The series also has a collaboration novel with Ryohgo Narita's Durarara!! novel series.

The novels received a television anime adaptation in 2018. Crunchyroll streamed the series as it aired in Japan, and Funimation streamed an English dub for the anime.
